A quick update just to show our Trolley: The CatBonde!
Its Design is from Flávio Markiewicz and Paula Markiewicz. The modeling is from Flávio as well. The texturing, shading and RIG is made by me. There are some things to fix, but it is mostly done.

Random Affairs Ministry / Ministério de Assuntos Aleatórios

Posted in Concepts, Gadanthara, Production on June 22nd, 2012 by dilly

Hello!

We entered the stage of texturing and rendering the scene, which is already almost entirely modeled.
We started with one of the main buildings of the short: The Random Affairs Ministry.

To streamline the process of creation we are using the 3D model itself (rendered only using ambient occlusion) as a base to paint using the concepts “repetitive patterns as colors”.
This whole process of painting will be displayed in a next post in video form.

Animation tests! / Testes de animação!

Posted in Detail Library, Gadanthara, Production on June 1st, 2012 by dilly

Quick Update with two animation tests of our characters: Gadanthara and Poster-man.

This is the first test we made to see if the Gadanthara RIG was functional. There are some intersections on the cloth because we changed the RIG but didn’t fixed the animation. But I wanted to see it rendered with the final shading and textures, so here it is.

Gadanthara Shading / Pintura do Gadanthara

Posted in Gadanthara, Production on May 25th, 2012 by dilly

Hello!

Brief update on our main character, Gadanthara.

We recently finished the shading and textures of this unusual character. And here are the latest images and a spin test that we produced
(the animation of this test was done by me, I’m not an animator and I did just to see how the textures would react):

The Poster-Man! O Homem-Cartaz!

Posted in Detail Library, Gadanthara, Production on May 1st, 2012 by dilly

Quick update to show that we are living and working on the short!

In this brief post will show our latest (finished) character: The Poster-Man!

The Poster-Man is the essence of our fictional city, San Corisco. Our city is immersed in advertising posters so absurdly (more on that in another post) that pollute they more than sell. It is the spirit of what the city has become. He is part of the dirt, so it’s happy on it. A walking poster that mysteriously has its own personality.

Actually, not so mysteriously… one of our concerns in the short is to make the characters “tangible” and “credible.” They do not need to be realistic, but must convince the viewer that they are alive.
For this reason the design of this character has ”tips” about its operation, but without revealing everything. Handles turn as he walks, his face is like a sheet of acetate that mechanically exchange… but in the end there’s still  a question of how he is alive.

Gadanthara raincoat rig

Posted in Gadanthara, Production on February 8th, 2012 by dilly

Gadanthara is the main character’s name of our short film, for now titled “Detail Library”, because it is the short that started the whole idea of the project. Gadanthara is a worker of Detail Library, an institution that cares for and houses all the details of the World, he is a posters paster and really loves what he does.

This character has a peculiar personality and also an anatomy different from the usual, having everything that a human has, except for: mouth, nose, ears, neck… And besides that, he uses a yellow raincoat which consists on three layers of clothing:
An “overcoat” with a “poncho” on and a hood. We also have buttons / loops and a “belt” to tie it all. Talking about accessories, it also has a “roll” and a “bucket” used to paste the posters.

All this have to be a rig.
Relatively smooth to pose and animate.
Done without any kind of simulations (I tested it and it is very problematic).
